ATTN: US Citizens
Some state driver's licenses are not acceptable for entrance into ORNL. The criteria for acceptable identification documents for U.S. citizens has become tighter. In compliance with the REAL ID Act of 2005, state-issued driver's licenses that are not REAL ID compliant will no longer be accepted as proof of identity at federal facilities. ORNL, which is considered a federal facility, has begun full implementation of the REAL ID Act as of March 30, 2015.
Several states and one U.S. territory have driver's licenses that are not REAL ID compliant: Arizona, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Idaho and American Samoa. Maine and New York have an "enhanced driver's license" that is accepted.
Visitors from these states will need an approved alternate form of identification to enter ORNL. Some other approved forms of identification include a U.S. passport or U.S. military ID. Visitors from other DOE sites can use their site issued/HSPD12 badges, which are accepted.
ORNL will be fully implementing the REAL ID Act on March 30, 2015. Visitors who do not have compliant identification will not be allowed to access ORNL or its facilities.
ATTN: NON-US Citizens
If you are a Permanent Resident (Green Card holder), please bring your green card as your identification.
If you are not a Permanent Resident, you will need to bring your passport as your photo ID, your visa, and all accompanying documentation. If you have a Visa that is VWT - Visa Waiver Tourist, it must be stamped as VWB - Visa Waiver Business. ORNL is not able to honor visas that are Visa Waiver Tourist or B-2 Visa. So, please be sure to have it stamped as Visa Waiver Business or B-1 as you come through immigration.
Since ORNL is a secure U.S. DOE facility, there are no exceptions to this policy. If you do not bring the items as per the instructions above, unfortunately, you will not be permitted into any ORNL facility, so please bring all the required papers and documents.
